We have spent the last week exploring El Tabo, Chile, and its many beaches. They are rocky, and the water is dangerous, but at low tide it reveals pools and crevasses. My favorite thing to do is explore these secret living worlds.

I have found beautiful sea glass and shells in my explorations.

Sea Glass

Sea glass is from glass left at that beach or dropped in the ocean. The motion of the waves rubbing the glass and sand together softens the sharp edges and clouds the glass.

I have collected 17 pieces over the two days I have been looking. At the start, a lot was lying on the ground, but now it is more challenging to find.

Shells

I found shells from different water creatures. The ones with holes in the middle are mollusks. The larger white shell is from a moon snail. Moon snails eat each other and smaller mollusks. The larger black shells, I believe, are from Tegula Atra.

Although the beaches are different from the ones at home, I am having a lot of fun.

  1. Sophie, which is your favorite shell? How many colors of sea glass have you found? I love exploring the hidden worlds when the tide goes out 🌊🌊🦀

    1. Hi Sophie,
I love your shells. I collected some of the same shells in my trip to Venezuela many moons ago. Enjoy your adventure! Hello to all your family. I miss you.
      Miss Nancy.
